The Aragonese Institute of Social Services (IASS) takes a further step in the implementation in the Autonomous Community of the Person-Centred Integrated Care model (AICP) with the start of the assessment, training and evaluation work to begin work on the new cohabitation units in the IASS residences. This process is a new milestone in the change of philosophy of care in residential centres and work will be carried out in the nine public residences that are currently finalising or building cohabitation units (20 units in total) that will house 250 people. The training will reach the 1,200 workers in the public centres.

This process started this morning with a meeting between the management teams and coordinators of the residential centres; the Regional Minister for Citizenship and Social Rights of the Government of Aragon, María Victoria Broto; the managing director of the IASS, Noelia Carbó; the head of the Quality Management section of the IASS Centres, Mariano Fago; and technicians from the Matia Institute (a national benchmark in the implementation of the AICP model).

From the Matia institute, its co-director, Erkuren Aldaz, emphasised "that person-centred care is a new look at the way of understanding care linked to aspects such as respect for dignity and personal autonomy, the promotion of capabilities from the significant and the everyday". He also added that this change in care "is part of everyone, institutions, teams, families and users. A change that puts us on the road to the transformation of long-term care".
